about us + sustainability.
how it all started ///
in the midst of a global pandemic, Urban Warfare NYC had its beginnings in a small, New York City apartment. With the nation's strictest stay-at-home orders in place, founder + creator, Christine Guerrero began passing the time by revamping the forgotten garments in her closet, before moving on to source more preloved inventory. as the custom requests began pouring in, it was clear that many others shared a similar desire for unique, sustainable clothing options.
sustainability ///
the fashion industry is responsible for roughly 10% of annual global carbon emissions, the biggest contributors being fast fashion brands with their mass overproduction of cheap, disposable garments. their clothing is often made of synthetic fibers, chemicals + microplastics, which can take 200+ years to naturally decompose. the most sustainable practices to reduce our carbon footprints are by utilizing garments that already exist since 14 million tons of clothing are incinerated each year. the practice of upcycling involves creating new pieces from already existing materials + involves far less water, fewer chemicals, and saves perfectly good garments from ending up in landfills.
our mission ///
our mission is to create unique + one of a kind pieces using pre-existing materials to decrease the negative environmental impacts caused by the fast fashion industry. our made-to-order pieces are created based on demand to prevent overproduction + unnecessary waste. we strive to use only recyclable + compostable materials for our production + packaging.
